1. Removes heat from the EGR system
Coolant absorbs heat from the EGR cooler, and the manifold carries that hot coolant away so the system doesn’t overheat.

2. Returns coolant to the cooling system
It directs the used coolant back into the engine’s cooling loop (radiator/engine block) so it can be cooled and reused.

3. Maintains stable engine temperatures
By keeping coolant flowing properly, it helps prevent hot spots that could damage engine or EGR components.

4. Supports emissions control
Keeping the EGR system at the right temperature ensures it works efficiently, reducing harmful emissions.

5. Distributes coolant efficiently
In some designs, the manifold connects multiple coolant passages, ensuring even flow between components.

1. Coolant leaks

• Puddles under the car (often green, orange, or pink fluid)
• Wet or crusty residue around the manifold area
• A noticeable sweet smell from leaking coolant

2. Engine overheating

• Temperature gauge running higher than normal
• Warning lights for high engine temperature
• Caused by loss of coolant or poor circulation

3. Low coolant level

• Frequently needing to top off coolant
• No obvious external leak elsewhere

4. White smoke or steam

• Coolant leaking onto hot engine parts can create steam
• In severe cases, coolant entering the exhaust system can cause white smoke

5. Poor engine performance

• Rough running or reduced efficiency if the EGR system isn’t cooling properly
• Possible hesitation or reduced power

6. Check engine light

• Fault codes related to EGR system performance or temperature issues

7. Visible damage

• Cracks in the manifold (common in plastic versions)
• Warping or corrosion
