A finely potted late 18th-century creamware vegetable tureen, almost certainly English, in the manner of Leeds or a comparable northern pottery of the period. The form is oval with a flat-domed lid and small handles - spare and elegant in the way that the best English creamware invariably is.
The glaze is the characteristic warm cream of the period, pooling slightly in the recesses and thinning over the raised edges, giving the piece its gentle tonal variation. No applied decoration - the form is the ornament.
Lid present and well-fitting. A hairline to the base, stable and old. Excellent display piece and usable for serving at table.
Length 28cm. Height with lid 18cm.
