Through all of this sharpening and refining of their already glorious sound, Squid have lifted the furious art punk leanings of their debut into something so undeniably expressive and unique that they honestly sound like a completely reborn bunch of musicians here.

Though certain moments on that record have always stood out to me as full of potential, I'm not even quite sure if this new record is a realization of that well of energy - it's an artistic sidestep into a new lane that is at once much more fitting for Squid's underlying instrumental and thematic ideas, but also far from the familiar band they once were, rocking out with the best of the Windmill scene in its glory days.
