Perfect for: Australian railway enthusiasts, NSW steam preservation fans, and collectors seeking an accurate model of one of the world’s largest steam locomotives.
Why this kit matters
The AD60 Class Garratt was the most powerful steam locomotive operated in Australia. Built by Beyer, Peacock & Company, these massive articulated locomotives hauled heavy freight across the steep grades of New South Wales from the 1950s through to the early 1970s.
Locomotive 6029 is one of the few surviving examples and has been restored to operational condition, making it a celebrated icon of Australian railway preservation. This model captures the locomotive in its plain black NSW Transport Heritage livery, reflecting its appearance during preservation service.
How to use it
Place the locomotive on HO scale track powered by a DC controller for immediate operation. To add digital control, install a compatible DCC decoder. Due to its articulated design and long wheelbase, ensure your layout meets the manufacturer’s recommended minimum curve radius.
This is a ready-to-run HO scale model locomotive. No assembly is required. It is not a toy and is recommended for collectors aged 14 and over.
