The front bears the regimental title ROYAL SUSSEX REGT around a central circlet enclosing the number 35, surmounted by a Victorian crown. The reverse carries the backmark FIRMIN & SONS LONDON this particular backmark was used from the early 1850s through to 1875, when the firm became a limited company , giving a confident date range of c. 18521875.
