This is the finest pine needle basket I've ever seen, and I've looked at a fair number and sold a number of them. It's like an incredibly intricate little nest, light as a feather, just exquisite--like the hushed floor of the forest distilled into the perfect object. The needles are a gorgeous shade of deep brown, and the stitching holding them together just beautiful.

The lid sits flat across the top of the basket, resting. It bears the remnant of an old red ribbon, and there is another whisper of red ribbon visible on the underside of the basket; perhaps it once tied the top and bottom together. I am not certain of this is Coushatta or Seminole, but I am 99% sure it is Native American, and I would guess a hundred years old. 

Excellent condition. Perhaps there are a few pine needles on the lid that have broken near the ends such that the tips are visible, very minor, and there is one tiny bit of something adhered to the surface of the lid, which I think I can likely very carefully remove with tweezers. 5 3/4" diameter x 1 3/4" tall.
