Series: Stellae Errantes / Wandering Stars
Mars Gradivus is inspired by the god of war as well as the red planet named for him. I wanted this elephant to look like it was wearing a war mask or some form of warrior paint, so the brush strokes that make his wrinkles are bold and colorful. His ears are out at full aggressive attention.
As a side note, I photographed this young elephant in Kenya at the Arc Lodge's watering hole. He was splashing in the water and towering over the other animals.
