This branch or pad cheek bit is made of steel.
The mouthpiece has a low port and is stamped "Sowter" and "Haymarket". Sowter & Co used this London address between 1848 & 1967/
Each cheek bears a gilt badge or boss. These badges show a St Edwards's crown over an olive wreath. In the centre of each badge there is the monogram "VR" and a crossed sword and baton.
The bit has its original curb hooks and swivelling lower curb reins,
There are brown leather straps with gilt decorative buckles attached to the curb rein rings, but these should really make up the headpiece for the curb bit.
