Imagine cruising through choppy waters or tacking against a stiff breeze without constantly adjusting the helm. The Garmin Reactor 40 steer-by-wire corepack transforms this vision into reality for boats equipped with Volvo Penta Inboard Performance Systems (IPS) or stern drive joystick setups. Tailored for both powerboats and sailboats, this system delivers commercial-grade precision that feels intuitive and effortless, elevating your time on the water from tiring to truly enjoyable.
What sets this autopilot apart is its ability to anticipate and adapt to the boat's movements. Whether you're battling crosswinds, swells, or sudden shifts, it maintains your heading with minimal input, letting you focus on navigation, fishing, or simply soaking in the views. Boaters who've upgraded often rave about the reduced fatigue on long passages and the confidence it instills during night runs or in unfamiliar waters.
At the heart lies a solid-state 9-axis Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS). This isn't your standard gyro—it's engineered to mount almost anywhere on your vessel, in any orientation, without compromising performance. The result? Drastically reduced heading errors, smoother course tracking, less rudder activity, and optimized power use, all translating to a steadier ride that keeps everyone comfortable.
Unlike older systems that struggle in rough seas, this one actively senses pitch, roll, and yaw, making real-time adjustments. It's like having an extra crew member who's tireless and laser-focused on keeping you on track.
Getting started shouldn't eat into your boating time. This corepack streamlines commissioning and calibration to the essentials—often just a few minutes before you're underway. No endless sea trials or fiddly tweaks required.
Versatility shines through with features suited for power and sail: precise heading hold for straight-line runs, wind hold for sailing stability, automated tacks and jibes, and programmable step turns ideal for trolling or search patterns. It's a single package that handles diverse boating styles without needing add-ons.
Pair it with Garmin chartplotters via NMEA 2000 for seamless command from anywhere onboard. Access autopilot functions alongside radar overlays, MARPA target tracking, and chart data. For hands-free operation, link up to three GHC helm controls, or go wireless with compatible smartwatches.
Enhance with optional charts for automated guidance paths—perfect for plotting efficient routes while the system takes the wheel. This connectivity turns your boat into a networked powerhouse, sharing heading data across devices for safer, smarter voyages.

Solid-state 9-axis AHRS
With its advanced solid-state 9-axis AHRS, you can mount Reactor 40 nearly anywhere, in any orientation. In addition, this new system greatly minimizes heading error, course deviation, rudder movement and power consumption while providing a comfortable ride for all on board.
Reacts to Conditions
This amazing autopilot actually reacts to the sea to hold your course. Even when the boat is pitching and rolling, you can remain confident that the Reactor 40 autopilot will keep you on your desired course.
Minimal Commissioning and Calibration
All autopilots require commissioning and calibration all of them. We know you just want to get on the water, so we made this process as fast and easy as possible. That's the power of simple.
Full Integration with Garmin Chartplotters
Combined with a compatible Garmin networked chartplotter, you can have full control of Reactor 40 from wherever you are on the boat. In addition to holding its course in virtually all weather and wind conditions, the system can smoothly perform a variety of preprogrammed trolling and search procedures. Plus, with a compatible Garmin networked chartplotter and BlueChart g2 Vision charts (sold separately), you gain optional features such as Auto Guidance, which automatically steers GPS paths.
Connect to Networked Devices
The Reactor 40 autopilot is operated using up to 3 GHC helm control units. GHC communicates with the autopilot system via your NMEA 2000 network, so autopilot heading data can be shared easily with other devices. This enables MARPA and chart overlay when connected to a Garmin chartplotter. An optional handheld wireless remote control is also available; however, for the highest level of convenience, control GHC using a compatible quatix 3 or quatix 5 marine multisport smartwatch.
